Need a hand?

Getting set up, your purchases, and how to reach us.

Getting started

The first time you open Shuttle Music it asks where your music is. You can add more places later in Settings > Sources, and use your phone and one or more servers side by side.

Music on your device (free)

  • Android: allow access to your music when asked, and Shuttle Music finds the songs on your phone. You can also pick the folders it reads.
  • iPhone and iPad: choose Use this device, then add songs to Shuttle Music's folder with the Files app or with Finder on a Mac, or pick a folder you already have.

Jellyfin

  • Enter your server's address, for example http://my.server.com:8096, then your username and password.
  • Or use Quick Connect: Shuttle Music shows a code; in Jellyfin's web app or another signed-in client, open your profile, then Quick Connect, and enter it.

Emby

  • Enter your server's address and your Emby username and password.

Plex

  • Sign in with your plex.tv account, then choose your server and music library.
  • Enter your server's address, for example http://my.server.com:4533, and your username and password. OpenSubsonic servers can sign in with an API key instead.

Servers

Which servers does Shuttle Music work with?

Jellyfin, Emby, Plex, and Navidrome and other Subsonic-compatible servers such as gonic and Airsonic, on both Android and iPhone.

Can I use my phone's music and a server together?

Yes. Add each place your music lives in Settings > Sources, and they play side by side.

Where does my server login go?

It stays on your device and is only ever sent to your server. There's no account with us, and Plex sign-in goes through your plex.tv account. The privacy policy has the details.

Can I choose the streaming quality?

Yes. Stream the original file, or cap it at 320, 192 or 128 kbps, with separate settings for Wi-Fi and mobile data.

Playback

Does Shuttle Music come with music?

No. It plays your own audio files, or music from a Jellyfin, Emby, Plex or Navidrome server that you run or have access to. It isn't a streaming service.

Which audio formats play?

On Android: FLAC, MP3, AAC and M4A, Ogg Vorbis, Opus and WAV. On iPhone and iPad: all of those, plus ALAC and AIFF.

Is playback gapless?

Yes, on both Android and iPhone, so albums that run from one track into the next play without a break.

Can I listen offline?

Music stored on your device always plays offline. With Pro, you can also download albums from your server to play without a connection, on Android and on iPhone.

Does it work in the car?

Yes: Android Auto on Android, and CarPlay on iPhone.

Pro and purchases

What's free, and what needs Pro?

Playing the music stored on your device is free. Streaming and downloading from Jellyfin, Emby, Plex or Navidrome is part of Shuttle Music Pro.

How does the free trial work?

The first time you play a song from your server, the app offers a free trial: 14 days on Android, 7 days on iPhone and iPad. After that, Pro is a one-time purchase, and Android also offers a yearly plan. If the trial ends without a purchase, server songs stop playing, while music on your device and songs you've already downloaded keep playing.

How do I restore a purchase?

Android: sign in to Google Play with the account you bought Pro with, then tap Restore purchases on the Shuttle Music Pro screen (in Settings). iPhone and iPad: use the same Apple Account, then tap Restore purchases on the Pro screen or in Settings.

Does a purchase carry over between Android and iPhone?

No. Google Play and the App Store keep purchases separate, so Pro bought on one doesn't unlock the other.

How do I get a refund or cancel the yearly plan?

Google Play and the App Store handle payment, so refunds and cancellations go through them: in the Play Store, Payments & subscriptions; for the App Store, reportaproblem.apple.com.

Troubleshooting

My server won't connect. What should I check?
  • Your phone has to reach the server: on the same Wi-Fi as a home server, or over the internet if you've made it available there. Try the same address in your phone's browser.
  • Include the port (:8096 for Jellyfin and Emby by default, :4533 for Navidrome) and http:// or https:// as your server uses.
  • Plain http:// addresses on your home network are fine.
Some songs on my phone are missing. Why?

On Android, check that Shuttle Music has access to your music and, if you picked folders, that the songs are inside them. On iPhone and iPad, songs have to be in Shuttle Music's folder in the Files app, or in a folder you picked.

Is this the original Shuttle Music Player?

Shuttle Music is a separate app from the original Shuttle Music Player, with its own Google Play listing.
